Rules of the Game Sudoku 42
Definitions
- The game board is 9×9, and the deck contains cards numbered 1 through 9 (81 cards in total).
- The board is divided by bold lines into 9 houses (3×3 squares) and by thin lines into rows and columns.
- A house, row, or column is considered closed if it contains all numbers from 1 to 9.
Objective
Collect nine cards in one house or row to earn victory points and gain the right to make the next move.
In a house, row, or column, no two cards with the same number can appear.
How to Play
Turn order
- Move cards already placed on the board or select a new card.
- Place a new card on the board.
- Move previously placed cards, resolve any conflicts, then end your turn and receive a new card from the deck.
Selecting a card
- Clicking a card activates it (its background is highlighted).
- A newly drawn card is highlighted in red.
- An already placed card that is activated is highlighted in yellow.
Placing and moving cards
- With an activated card (highlighted), click on a cell to move the card there.
- If you click on a cell that already contains a card, the two cards swap places, and the previously placed card becomes active.
- When a house, row, or column is closed, the background of its cards turns gray, and those cards become immovable.
Conflict situations
- Two cards with the same number cannot be placed in the same house. The game will not allow this.
- Two cards with the same number cannot be placed in the same row or column. In this case, the numbers of the conflicting cards turn red.
- You cannot end your turn or receive a new card until all conflicts are resolved.
Ending a turn
After placing a new card and resolving all conflicts, you can press Next to draw a new card.
- If you manage to close a house or a line during your turn, you earn bonus points and gain the right to another move.
Conflict resolution
- Select one of the conflicting cards and move it to another spot so that the Sudoku Rule is observed.
- You may resolve the conflict yourself, or press Solve and let the game do it for you.
- Note: If the game resolves it for you, you will not receive victory points or an extra turn, even if you closed a house or line that move.
Algorithm for resolving conflicts
- Solve problems as they arise.
- Always resolve one problem at a time.
- Always choose the simplest solution.
End of the game
- When the entire board is filled, a results window appears.
